What's a good methord when starting training a Scrum?
Best place to start is getting body position correct. Wide stance, Hips back, Shoulders back, bend at hips and knees, Hands up and Head up. From there use 1 on 1 packing and pushing as the drill and the introducion to the Crouch, Touch, Pause, Pack. Front row against front row, locks against locks, loosies against loosies. Then get the bind working, the jersey bind Drill with 2 on 2 packing and pushing. Using players to try to drive the opposition apart. Then start working on specific position progressively from Front row, then locks and loosies. Drill on a scrum machine with heads up, clean channels, co-ordinated push. Lastly the hooker specific work needs to be worked on, Coordination with the halfback feed, organising the scrum, clean heels
There's an interestng piece on the scrum at [link removed] but I really do think that if you're not sure where to start you shouldn't be starting at all. Get on your union's Level 1 coaching course or at least seek out a CPD event dealing with the scrum. If that's not possible find someone in your club who is qualified and ask them to start your players off but be very wary of the gnarled old prop who played for years - the game has changed.
As I was saying before the link fairy stopped me, go to joecoachuk dot blogspot dot com to read that piece and above all be safe. You don't need to scrummage to play rugby, but you do need to be able to stand up.
